Confused by macro tracking? Let me help
Confused by macro tracking?
I’ve been asked “WHAT ON EARTH IS A MACRO ANYWAY, AND HOW AND WHY WOULD I WANT TO TRACK THEM?”
Macro aka macronutrient, defined as “Energy-providing chemical substances consumed by organisms in large quantities”. Or in simple terms, the large nutrients your body needs to function: Protein, Carbohydrates (Carbs) and Fats. There is also alcohol but that’s clearly not under the umbrella of ‘needs to function’ – it does count for calories though, let me introduce you:
What are the 4 macros?
PROTEIN – The one we all need and usually don’t get enough off
CARBOHYDRATES (aka Carbs) – Are they the devil? Hell no, they’re part of a balanced diet and fuel our exercise
FATS – Wait… Are they the devil? NO. They have essential functions too
ALCOHOL – Wait…what?! Alcohol is a macro? Yep, it counts
